Security
An attack or misuse pattern that consumes excessive AI resources, increases cost, degrades availability, or prevents legitimate users from receiving service. For business-critical AI, availability planning should include quotas, abuse detection, fallback processes, budget alerts, and dependency resilience.
OWASP LLM10:2025 Unbounded Consumption (renamed from Model Denial of Service) addresses resource exhaustion and economic denial of service.
AWS, Microsoft Azure, and OpenAI all enforce rate limits and token quotas to mitigate denial of service against LLM endpoints.
The 2023 Sponge Examples paper showed adversarial inputs that inflate inference time and energy use, increasing operational cost.
