Governance and Compliance
A change to purpose, model, data, operating context, integration, user group, or risk profile significant enough to require reassessment, approval, testing, or updated documentation. Material-change rules matter because seemingly small changes to prompts, retrieval sources, model versions, or user populations can materially alter risk.
Under SR 11-7, US banks require formal change management with revalidation when models receive material changes such as new features, retraining, or new use cases.
EU AI Act Article 43 treats substantial modifications as triggering renewed conformity assessment, including modifications by deployers of high-risk systems.
Salesforce's Trusted AI process requires re-review when a generative AI feature undergoes material change such as a new foundation model version or expanded user scope.
