An external assessment by an accredited certification body to determine whether the AIMS conforms to ISO/IEC 42001. Certification provides assurance over the management system, not a guarantee that every AI decision is risk-free. Buyers and regulators may still ask system-level questions about particular AI applications, datasets, vendors, and harms.
BSI conducted the certification audit for KPMG Australia under ISO 42001, with an auditor travelling from overseas due to the standard's recent issuance, culminating in October 2024 certification.
Schellman Compliance issued Anthropic's ISO 42001 certificate effective 6 January 2025 with surveillance audits annually and a full recertification by 5 January 2028.
Accredited certification bodies under IAF Multilateral Recognition Arrangements include BSI, Schellman, A-LIGN, and Coalfire, all conducting Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits for ISO 42001.
